Juglans nigraOur default. Deep chocolate heartwood, straight grain, takes oil like a dream and patinas warmer over a decade.
Square feet of working floor on the Pequonnock river. Two benches, one CNC, one bandsaw — everything else hand or sled.
Major pieces a year. Commissioned: 5–6. Standing collection: 2–3. Lead time on a custom build: sixteen weeks from contract.
Board feet of FAS-grade hardwood, all kiln-dried, racked and rotated. Walnut, white oak, cherry, hard maple.
Twelve years of dining tables, desks, beds, and case work. Around 92 named pieces in homes from Maine to Marin.
Eight-foot walnut top, hand-cut breadboard ends, draw-bored through tenons. Hardwax-oiled finish. Seats six comfortably.
White-oak writing desk with two graduated drawers and a single-board top. Hand-cut half-blind dovetails on every drawer.
Hard-maple sitting bench with steel-pin keys at the breadboards. Built to live at the foot of a bed or a long hallway.
Three-door, two-drawer sideboard with brass plate-pulls and a finger-jointed back panel. The grain is wild on the doors.

For desks, vanities, and anything wet. Closed-pore grain, water-resistant rays, fumes beautifully under ammonia for kitchens.
Sideboards, beds, anything that lives in afternoon light. Pinky-orange when fresh, deepens to a rich amber over six months.
Send dimensions, the room, and a budget tier. We respond with a sketch fee within five business days.
Week 0–1Two scaled blueprints, a wood-source list, and a delivery quote. One revision included; second is billable.
Week 1–4We pull and rough-mill from the rack, photograph every board, and email a wood-selection sheet for sign-off.
Week 4–7Six to eight weeks at the bench. We send weekly bench-side photos. Joinery is hand-cut where it shows.
Week 7–14Four coats of hardwax oil with a 24-hour cure between. We crate, freight, and meet the delivery in person within 200 mi.
Week 14–16Twelve years at the bench, formal training at North Bennet Street School. Theo cuts every dovetail and tenon by hand and refuses to use anything but a marking gauge for layout.
"A good piece you can't see the joinery on is a bad piece. The joint is the work."
Iyana joined in 2019 from a residency at Penland. She handles every drawing, every CAD file, every hardwax oil cure. Her finishes are why our pieces photograph so well.
"Hardwax oil isn't a coating, it's a partnership with the board. Some of them just won't do it."
If your shape isn't on the floor, open a commission. Three slots a quarter, full sketch within four weeks of contract, sixteen weeks bench to door.
