Mediums I work in

Real paint first,
scanned second.

Most pieces start in gouache or watercolour on cold-press paper, scanned at 1200dpi, then finished in Procreate or Photoshop. Pure-digital is welcome too — picture books and pattern often work better that way.

Gouache

Opaque, matte, paint-mixable. The default for editorial and picture-book covers. Cold-press 300gsm paper.

Watercolour

Loose, transparent, botanical. Best for pattern bases and forager-style illustration. Finetec gold accents on request.

Procreate

Fully digital, layered, exportable as PSD or layered TIFF. Standard for picture-book interiors with a tight schedule.

Risograph

2-3-colour separations for risograph zines and screenprint. Layered files plus printer-spec separations included.

Frequently asked

Quick answers.

What's actually included in "one round of revisions"?

One round means a single consolidated pass — typed up, with reference to specific elements ("make the bird smaller, lift the green by 10%, swap the type for serif"). Send everything together; subsequent rounds are billed at £180/half-day. The intent is to make the round-one feedback feel calm and intentional rather than rushed.

Do you offer rush turnaround?

Yes — 25% surcharge for editorial commissions briefed in by Monday and delivered by Friday. Picture books and pattern-design tiers don't compress as cleanly; if the deadline is genuinely fixed, send the brief anyway and I'll be honest about whether it fits.

Who owns the original artwork?

You hold the license to reproduce; I retain the original artwork unless we agree on shipping it to you (included with the Editorial Cover tier and most picture-book spreads). For pattern-design work, the master tile and tech sheet are licensed under the term we agree — no exclusivity unless paid for separately.

How do milestone payments work for picture books?

Picture books bill 50% on storyboard sign-off, 30% on rough-art sign-off, and 20% on final delivery. Larger trade-publisher contracts often substitute their own three-stage schedule — happy to work to whichever you prefer.

Will you sign an NDA before I share the brief?

Of course — send your standard NDA with the inquiry and I'll counter-sign before any work begins. The studio also has a short two-page mutual NDA on file if you'd prefer.

Do you take co-illustrator commissions?

Occasionally — I've co-illustrated two zines and a small picture book with friends from the studio. If you're imagining a project where two voices play off each other, mention it in the inquiry and we'll talk through how that might work.
