FAQ · 06
What's included in the flat fee — and what isn't?
The flat fee covers attorney + paralegal time, evidence assembly, drafting, filing, one or two RFE responses (tier-dependent), and 30-day status updates. It does not cover government filing fees (these are passed through at cost and shown on every invoice), translation services (we use a network of certified translators billed at their rate), or expert opinion letters from independent third parties.
Do you take payment plans?
Yes. The default schedule is 50% on retainer signature and 50% on filing. For Comprehensive and Concierge files we will split the second payment into two installments, due at filing and at adjudication. We do not charge interest on installments.
What if my case is denied?
If the denial is based on facts that were known at the time of filing and we missed them, we re-file at no additional attorney fee. If the denial is based on a change in adjudication policy or new facts that emerged after filing, we discuss the appeal or refile path with you transparently. RFE responses are included in the retainer.
Are pro bono cases available?
Yes. We accept one pro bono case per quarter, typically asylum or unaccompanied-minor representation, in coordination with the SF Bar Association's pro bono program. Apply through our resources page; we review the queue at the start of every quarter.
Why so much cheaper than the big firms?
The math is simple: a 220-attorney shop has overhead — partners, associates, marketing, real estate. We are five people in one office and we cap our docket at 35 active retainers. We're also faster because the attorney reads the file directly, not through three layers of associates.
Do you charge for the consultation?
No. The first 30-minute consult is free, and you receive a signed eligibility memo within 24 hours summarizing what we'd recommend, estimated timing, and an estimated total fee. There is no obligation to retain.
