Our story

Built for the long way home.

We started this company because we couldn't find a single suitcase that survived the way we actually traveled — long-haul, unplanned, gravel-road, never-on-time. So we built one. Ten years on, we still build them the same way.

The manifesto.

We don't believe in disposable luggage. The average suitcase lasts 2–4 trips before something breaks. We design ours to last 10 years, then last another 10 after a free repair.

Our shells are made from 100% recycled aerospace polycarbonate. Our wheels are silent and replaceable. Our zippers are salt-tested. The leather details are hand-finished in a 3rd-generation workshop in Porto, Portugal.

We pay our manufacturers fairly, donate 1% of revenue to climate non-profits, and run a free repair program for every bag we've ever sold — even if you bought it used.

None of this makes us special. It just makes us the kind of company we wanted to buy from.

Field log

Ten years on the road.

Brief notes from the trips, the prototypes, and the people who got us here.

2016

Two prototypes in a Portland garage

The first Carry-On 38 prototype was held together with 3D-printed brackets and stubbornness. It survived 14 flights before we had to cannibalize it for parts.

Founders Anya & Mateo quit their day jobs after a six-week test trip across Asia. The bag survived. They were less sure about themselves.

2018

Porto workshop opens

We partnered with a third-generation Portuguese leather house to hand-finish every leather detail. Every bag has been finished there since.

Capacity: 200 bags / week. Finished by hand. Stamped with the workshop's mark on every interior tag.

2021

Free-repair program launches

We send a pre-paid shipping label to every customer with a broken bag — no proof of purchase needed, no warranty paperwork.

To date, we've repaired over 14,000 bags this way. About 8% of them weren't even ours.

2023

Recycled shell + 1% Earth

The full Carry-On line moved to 100% recycled aerospace polycarbonate. We joined 1% for the Planet the same year.

Estimated 28 tons of virgin polycarbonate avoided. About $280k donated to climate non-profits since.

2026

Trail-Stone collection

Our most ambitious release: clay, navy, stone, forest. Same warranty, same workshop, same promise.

Shipping now. We hope you take it somewhere you're scared to go.

→ How we build

Six principles, no compromises.

01 / DURABILITY

Built for ten years, not ten trips.

Every fastener, zipper and wheel is rated for 10 years of regular travel — and replaceable when the time comes.

02 / REPAIRABILITY

Free repairs, forever.

Every bag is built to be opened, fixed, and closed back up. Send it in — we cover shipping both ways.

03 / MATERIALS

Recycled, traceable, fair.

100% recycled polycarbonate shells, vegetable-tanned leather, fair-wage suppliers in every region.

04 / DESIGN

Field-tested for years.

Every prototype goes through 100+ flights and 6 months of real-world travel before we ship it.

05 / GIVING

1% of revenue to climate.

We're a 1% for the Planet member. Every order supports climate non-profits — no checkout opt-in needed.

06 / TRANSPARENCY

Cost breakdown on every page.

Materials, manufacturing, shipping, margin. We publish the breakdown of every product, no hand-waving.

Workshop
The Porto workshop

Three generations of leather work.

Every Wanderpack bag is hand-finished in a small workshop in Porto, Portugal that's been making leather goods since 1958. The current owner — third generation — finishes the prototype of every new bag we design before it goes into production.

We pay above the regional average, train every new hire for six months, and pour a small drink with the team after every release.
