The Summit Pass Race Team is a competitive alpine program for skiers ages 8 to 18 chasing USSA points. Try-outs every November. Two practice sessions per week plus weekend race travel. Coached by former NCAA athletes with podium-finish records and current USSA Level 200 certification.

Five groups. One progression.

Athletes move up by birth year and demonstrated technical readiness. Coaches do internal evaluations every December and March — moving up mid-season is rare but possible.

Ages 8-9 · birth years 17-18

Foundational gates and free-skiing. Two coached sessions per week, no overnight travel, only local USSA-sanctioned events.

Slalom and giant slalom in earnest. Begins out-of-state day-trip events. Foundation strength and conditioning twice a week.

Full speed series — slalom, GS, and intro to super-G. Overnight race travel, dryland, and weekly video review.

Three full-time race coaches, all USSA Level 200 certified, two with NCAA Division I race experience and one former US Development Team athlete.

Former NCAA Division I athlete (Dartmouth, 2008-12). Twelve seasons coaching at Summit Pass. Heads the U16 + U18 program and runs all video review.

U10-U14 lead · USSA L200 · PSIA L3

Former US Development Team athlete. Heads the U10, U12, and U14 program. Designs the dryland curriculum and the early-season foundation block.

Former NCAA II race captain. Heads the speed events block — super-G and downhill — for U14 and up. Also leads the summer dryland camp in CO.

Six weeks in Colorado. Glacier camp + strength block.

Every July the U14, U16, and U18 groups travel to Mount Crested Butte for a four-week glacier camp paired with a two-week strength and conditioning block at our Boulder partner facility. Travel and lodging packaged in one fee.

Programmed by Holden and Soren. Daily on-snow sessions in the morning, lift cycle for free-ski recovery, and afternoon strength + plyo. Weekly Friday video review and a Saturday athlete-mentor talk.

Try-outs

Three days in November. Bring your bib.

Try-outs run the second weekend of November every year. Athletes ski two timed GS runs and one free-ski evaluation. Coaches review with parents on day three and place every athlete in a group. New athletes register through the booking page.
