What the certifications mean

The acronyms, briefly.

PSIA

Professional Ski Instructors of America

The national accreditation body for ski instruction. Levels 1, 2, and 3 — Level 3 is examined and held by under 10% of all certified instructors.

AASI

American Association of Snowboard Instructors

The PSIA equivalent for snowboard. Same Level 1-2-3 structure. Crossover instructors hold both certifications.

CS

Children's Specialist 1 + 2

Optional PSIA endorsement covering child-development theory, age-appropriate instruction, and managing the ski-school environment.

USSA

US Ski + Snowboard L100 / L200

The race-coaching certification track. L100 covers fundamentals; L200 covers training plan design and is held by every full-time race coach here.
