Honest fees, scaled to household income.

A calm divorce should not depend on the size of your house. Our sliding-scale flat fee covers the entire mediation engagement, set at intake based on combined household income, and never adjusted upward. Forty percent of our engagements are at or below the median fee, by design.

The Sliding Scale

Where you fit on the scale.

Combined gross household income, prior to separation. The fee covers the complete engagement: intake, six joint sessions, drafting, filing, and one-year check-in.

A note on the scale — Fees are set at engagement based on the combined gross household income from your most recent tax return, and they are not adjusted upward later, regardless of complexity. We hold roughly fifteen percent of our calendar each year for couples whose situation places them below the bottom of the scale; please ask when you call.

Everything included in the flat fee.

The flat fee is genuinely flat. There are no surcharges for additional sessions, no hourly add-ons for revisions to the Memorandum of Understanding, and no extra cost for the one-year check-in.

If your engagement runs long because we need additional sessions, that is on us — not you.

Frequently Asked

Honest answers about money.

What if our income places us below the bottom of the scale?

Roughly fifteen percent of our calendar each year is held for couples whose situation places them below the standard scale. We set a fee that works for your circumstance at intake, in writing, and we do not adjust it upward later. Please ask when you call — the conversation is straightforward and confidential.

Can the fee be split between us, or paid by one party?

Either is common. Most couples split the fee evenly, but it is not unusual for one spouse to pay more — particularly when household income is concentrated with one party. We accept payment from one or both, in any proportion you agree to.

Is the discovery session fee credited toward Full Mediation?

Yes. If you proceed with us into Full Mediation, the $420 discovery-session fee is credited against the flat fee. If you decide mediation is not your path — or you choose a different mediator — the discovery-session fee is retained as the cost of the conversation.

Are court filing fees included?

Court filing fees are paid directly to the court at filing and are not included in our flat fee. They typically run $250 to $450 depending on jurisdiction. We tell you the exact amount in advance and remit it on your behalf at filing.

What if our case requires more than six sessions?

About one in twelve engagements runs longer than six sessions. If we both agree the additional time is warranted, the additional sessions are included at no additional cost. The flat fee is genuinely flat — that is the whole point of pricing it that way.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes. The default arrangement is a payment of half at engagement and half before drafting begins. We can structure additional plans — typically three to four payments over the course of the engagement — by request and without additional cost.
