Two single beds in one open room with a shared en-suite bath, fronted by a screened porch facing the lower garden. Most often booked by solo guests on a retreat — you'll be paired with another single guest, same gender unless requested otherwise. Two of the six villas are this tier.

Most-booked by solo guests on a silent or yin retreat — privacy is total, the porch faces a small private garden, and the bathroom has its own outdoor shower under a frangipani tree.

Our largest villa, on the upper terrace at the edge of the property. King bed, separate sitting room with daybed and reading chairs, two bathrooms, an outdoor stone tub on a private deck overlooking the rice paddy. Best for couples or for solo guests who want to do nothing. Only one of these on the property — book early.

The same kit, in every room.

Hand-loomed bedding

Cotton bedding from the weavers in Tenganan. Replaced and laundered between guests, never daily during a stay.

Outdoor showers

Every villa has a stone outdoor shower with hot water from a solar boiler. Hand-pressed cold water for the morning hour.

Hand-cut keys

Brass key on a hand-carved wooden fob. Yours for the week. Front desk holds one duplicate. Honor-system pantry on the porch.

WiFi at the kitchen

Strong signal in the kitchen and library, intentionally weak in the villas. Phone signal cuts out after 9pm by design.

The property

Six villas, one studio, one kitchen.

The full property covers about an acre of stepped land facing the river. The studio is at the highest point, the kitchen and long table on the middle terrace, and the villas spread along the lower two terraces. Total walking distance from any villa to the studio is under five minutes.

The six villas, the studio, the long-table kitchen, the small library, the swimming pool, and the staff house are the only buildings on the property. There is no road inside the gates.

Welcome dinner is served at 7. Earlier arrivals can rest in the kitchen with tea.

Closing breakfast at 8. Late departure on request, $40 per villa per hour.
