A small parcel of carefully chosen Clary titles, mailed every season from a brownstone in Carroll Gardens. Wrapped in cotton paper, hand-stamped, and addressed to you.
Every Press Box is a full meal. The books, of course, are the centerpiece — but the rest is the part subscribers tell us they love most.
The three books on our seasonal list that we think work best together — a novel, an essay, a short or translated thing. Hardcover, signed by every available author.
A book we acquire and produce specifically for the Press Box. Never sold separately. Often a long essay, a short novel, or a chapbook from a writer we love. Sometimes letterpress.
A four-page letter from Your Business herself about the season — what she read, what she fought with the editorial team about, what made it in. Set in metal type at the Hudson shop.
A single broadside printed letterpress in Hudson on cotton stock — a poem, a passage, or a typographic experiment. Numbered, signed by Marit. Suitable for a small frame on a small wall.
An RSVP for our seasonal launch night, held in our Carroll Gardens parlor. Wine, broadside-printing demo, the new box opened on stage. Subscribers only. Capacity 60. Out-of-towners get a recorded version.
A pressed leaf, a tea bag, a length of book-binding ribbon, a postcard, a sample of bookcloth. Whatever Clary thinks of in the week before we ship. Often handmade, never twee.
All tiers ship free in the U.S. and at cost internationally. Cancel any time, with no hold music and no exit survey.
"The Press Box is the only piece of mail I look forward to anymore. The way it's wrapped, the way the books smell, the editor's letter — it's a small civilization, arriving four times a year."
"I gifted it to my mother three years ago and now she calls me to tell me what she's reading. I had not expected this, in any of my plans for our relationship. Worth every dollar."
"The bonus book in vol. xxvii — a 96-page novella by an Estonian writer none of us had heard of — was the best thing I read all year. This is what I am paying for."
Four times a year, in mid-February, mid-May, mid-August, and mid-November. New subscribers receive their first box within two weeks of joining; depending on the date, that may be the current quarter's box or the next.
Yes — to thirty-eight countries. International shipping is at our cost, currently $42 / year on top of the subscription, and includes the same hand-wrapping and stamps. A few countries (Australia, Japan, the UK) have a slightly slower transit window of about ten days.
You can. Email us up to two weeks before the ship date, and we'll skip the quarter without charge. We don't make you fill out a form. We do not regard skipping a season as a problem.
If a book in the Press Box is one you already own, write to Hassan in subscriber care. He'll send you a credit toward our store, or — most often — a different recent Clary title in its place, mailed within a week.
Correct. The fourth book in every Press Box is acquired specifically for subscribers and is not available in our store, in bookshops, or as an ebook. About a third of subscribers tell us this is the most-loved book of the year.
Email cancel@yourbusiness.com and we'll cancel your renewal within an hour. We don't have a hold-and-save department. You'll keep any boxes you've already paid for, and we won't ask you to fill out a survey.
